Vera Mae’s Bistro is a charming dining establishment that combines a warm, inviting atmosphere with an exquisite culinary experience. Located in the heart of the community…
My wife and I enjoy trying new places and we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here at Vera Mae's Bistro. Had a great time - it was warm enough to sit outside and there was only one other table occupied but was vacated before we got our food so it was like we had a private place all to ourselves, which was fun. The dinner rolls that came out while we were waiting for our main course were average, but still good. After that everything steadily improved and provided an elevated experience worthy of a celebration. Salad was fresh, dressing was good, and starting with French onion soup, the food was very tasty and fun to eat. We both got different chicken dishes, and they were something to go back for. Presentation was nice and we had fun evening together. We both ordered creme brulee for dessert and it was actually a little different flavor than we expected but made well and we loved it. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, which was expected at this level of venue, but doesn't always happen these days so that was nice. Overall, this is a great value for the cost. This doesn't necessarily fit our frugal food budget but for a celebration meal this was very well worth the cost. Definitely check out Vera Mae's Bistro!
Attended a rehearsal dinner here. It was the best food I have ever had at such an event - bringing out ~40 plates out at the same time is hard, and usually the food reflects the compromises that have to be made. This food was wonderful. The building is great as well. This is a gem that is worth the trip to Muncie if you do not live there
I had such a great experience dining in. It was my wife and I's 5th anniversary. We sat at a table in the corner looking out at the street, which we quite liked. It was a more intimate area. The lighting was dim but not too dim, it really set the mood for the night. Our server was attentive, but not too much so that it became overbearing. He was very knowledgeable on the menu items and gave us some great insight on what to order. We ordered the Cromini Crustini as the appetizer, and it was very decadent. Very creamy with the perfect amount of Balsamic glaze on top. After the appetizer, my wife got the onion soup, while I got the Curried Potato soup. The curry was good, but after tasting that onion soup, I wished I had gotten it. We both agreed that it was the best onion soup we've ever tasted. My wife settled on the 14 oz. Strip Steak, and I on the Chicken Marcona. The Chicken Marcona was a perfect mix of salty/sweet. The sides were very normal, just green beans and mashed potatoes, nothing special. My wife's steak was very good, nice and tender. It paired very well with the pickled onions on the side. For dessert, I got the pecan crusted cheesecake, while my wife ordered the creme brulee. Both were exceptional in our book. Overall we loved the ambiance, food, and staff of Vera Mae's, and we will definitely be back!

Jake B was our server. So glad we found this place. Chef Fries are incredible. Cubano was good. Mushroom and spinach MAC is fantastic. Great food. Great atmosphere! Thank you! PS... peanut butter pie is going home with us.
Excellent food! Amazing service! I can't say enough about this place! If you ever find yourself in downtown Muncie, you HAVE to go here for a beer and a BBQ sandwich! Yuuuuummmmy!!
The food was pretty good but the customer service wasn’t great. They weren’t insanely busy but our waiter didn’t even check on us until we were asking for the check. When he gave us the check it was DOUBLE what it should have been, but luckily we got it fixed. Overall, he was alright in regards to how he treated customers. The female waitress was pretty rude to her customers though.

Negatives: Long wait (40 minutes) for a table after being told 10-20 made for a hungry group. Table and bench were wet and dirty (leftover food transferred to clothes) . Music was way too loud so had to shout along with everyone else trying to talk so couldn't have a good conversation. Positives: great food and wait staff were very attentive. Yummy fried pickles (very flavorful and nice and thin) with ranch dipping sauce, cactus blossom fried onion were both hits at our table along with all the complimentary yeast rolls. Our table of 5 ordered 3 different steak entrees, appetizer ribs with steak fries as an entree, and a bacon cheeseburger. Everyone enjoyed their food!
Heard a few birthday shout outs! Everyone was helpful great atmosphere! Food was great the rolls were amazing! Will definitely visit again!
The food here is usually excellent and I'm usually glad that I chose here, but this time was a bit rough. The steaks I ordered were burnt and undercooked at the same time. The sides were good as usual, but the rolls were hard! The first one was the medallions that were ordered medium. The second is the bone-in ribeye that was ordered medium well. Usually when we order this, it's spot on...This time...Not so much.

I wish the food and service was better. Chicken wing sauce was pretty good if not too salty but the wings were dry. I also got a strange look for asking for chili cheese fries and while they obliged me and served me an outstanding plate of them I had to persuade the server to make it happen.
The food is great, this was the first place we ate at when my in laws were helping us move to Muncie two years ago, and they got margaritas if i remember right. They loved the food, my wife and I loved the food and the place has a few tvs. Great place to hang out, and that’s what a lot of people do. Just watch out for the parking, it helps when you go to the 2nd back parking lot reserved for this place and a couple others. Definitely worth it though.
The food is alright but for the price its a but much in my opinion. We got the pimento tots as an appetizer and they were almost $12 and the toppings didnt even cover all of the tots. The salads are good but nothing special. Same with the burgers. The parking lot is also super small as it is shared with 3 other businesses and there is no where else to park around there. They do offer some fun events on different days though like trivia night.

We decided to check this spot out after it was recommended by some locals, and we were not disappointed! We had already had dinner but decided to enjoy dessert and a night cap. 10/10 recommend. The Bourbon selection was beyond impressive. Our chocolate cake was phenomenal. Next time, we'll grab dinner there, too! Great service.
Had a large group (20+) and put us upstairs. Nice private area on a balcony overlooking the restaurant. Service was amazing, especially with the 2 sisters as our waitresses. Steak was good, and the bacon app and creme'brulee were both amazing. Great margaritas and cold beer. Smoked ol fashion is a great choice, too.
First time here to celebrate our 27th anniversary. Ron Lahody, you sir did not disappoint! First of all we were seated right away. I'm in a wheelchair and we were seated at the back at a table. The atmosphere I gave 3 stars only because of the noise level & acoustics and tables are tight. It was decorated beautifully. It was very difficult to maneuver my chair down the main aisle too. It was very tight with booths down one side and people in chairs at tables down the other side. I had to ask some people to scoot up which they were very polite about and I thanked them. We were greeted by our server Huda who had such a beautiful smile and the most sincere personable & outgoing personality! No matter how yucky of a day you had, you couldn't help but smile back at her! I'm 52 yrs old and Huda was thee best, most attentive server I've ever had yet! We told her too and she genuinely appreciated it too. We got cornbread and bread brought out and omg..best cornbread! We had a shrimp cocktail and crabcakes for appetizers. Exceptional!!! Then hubby got prime rib, baked potato and mushrooms. I got the filet mignon, asparagus and baked potato. Dessert we shared a creme Brulee and Huda brought us out a choc cupcake with a candle for our anniversary which was a sweet unexpected gesture. As we were eating a well dressed gentleman came over to us and said thank you coming in this evening. Then he returned to a booth he was setting at dining too. Turns out it was Mr. Ron Lahody himself, the owner who was there dining. The staff said they hadn't seen him in awhile as he'd had surgery. I wish I had known who he was as I would've expressed to him how impressed we were with the food & Huda! So my apologies Ron. Let me tell you that was hands down the best steak I have ever had in my life! My first time having creme brulee too and it was also divine! I hope someone there sees this review and gives Huda a pat on the back. She was truly a great first impression with her smile. We will def be back! Mr. Lahody I'm sorry I hadn't tried it sooner. I've been to the meat market but not the steakhouse. You got a good thing going there!

I enjoyed the food and the hometown atmosphere. Bacon was crispy and good. French toast was delicious! Excellent service! Sabrina was amazing and was such a wonderful hostess! I will be back
Hits the spot for breakfast. Honest American grub: eggs, bacon, sausage, omelettes. Service is friendly and they treat everyone like a regular. The food is good and portions are more than you should eat. You can be in and out in less than an hour. Shredded hash browns are perfectly prepared. Omelettes are large and stuffed full. Drinks are frequently refilled. Lunch menu is just as good as breakfast. Its a humble place where the friendly service and good food is more memorable than the building.
The food is good, it is what you'd expect from a Cafe experience. We had the added bonus one weekend, of a magician coming to our table while we ate and doing some magic tricks. It was so much fun and my kids loved it!

I've only just started to come here but it's already become my first choice of breakfast meals in the morning. With a wide selection of classic foods and drinks to serve, the one matter you can always count on is deliciousness from Mulligan's Grill. My recommended choice is the pork chop and eggs, as it is just superb! How this place is not its own restaurant chain business is beyond me!
Calm place, beautiful view of the golf course and the lady that served us (Ashly) was very polite and did a great job!
Rode bike from toledo oh. Found place on maps. 3hr ride sure. I got club sandwich very good. Friend got the cardonblue sandwich he said was good. For sure be back again

MCL Cafetera used to be my favorite restaurant, but unfortunately I forgot it was there since I don't go to Muncie very much anymore. The really cool part is that the food is still good!! The iced tea and the fried chicken were the best, and still are!! Don't let the name fool you, even when I was younger, I loved this place!!!! …
We got there at opening time everything was hot and fresh.
The food was pretty good, but the price was outrageous!.

i never knew food could be so tasty,,, the catfish(with their slightly spicy sauce) was DIVINE and the breading they use for the chicken was SCRUMPTIOUS. i didn't even know I liked collared greens but apparently i love em! everything was perfect, the staff was so kind, we were really treated like family :D plus students get some nice deals!! one note: they do not have many tables set up for large groups, biggest is 4 seats but they helped us move some tables together to get 6 seats
Fast friendly service, even though Faith, our server was only on her 2nd week. Fish was delicious and crispy. Sweet potatoes were heaven. Greens tasted like they were cooked your grandma. The prices were good as well. I didn't see the banana pudding until I was already cashing out. I am excited to try the chicken next time. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.
Overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The portions were great. The main thing that disappointed me was the boxed , stovetop mac & cheese. It barely had any flavor & definitely tasted like it came straight from the box. Besides that, the chicken & catfish were very good , I enjoyed the greens & yams as well.

We had a special Father's day brunch at the soft opening of the restaurant. My husband enjoyed the scratch made biscuits and gravy. I sampled the gravy and it is one of the best I have ever had. My friend and I both had the bananas foster pancakes. The pecans on top gave a nice crunchy contrast to the soft pillowly pancakes. All organic menu. We will be back!!! The chef has put together a very creative and scrumptious looking menu.
Best cocktails we have had in Muncie and delicious organic food. I had an amazing jalapeño pineapple margarita, a grapefruit margarita, & decided on the special which was a smoked chicken quesadilla. This is truly a hidden gem in Muncie! These are the same owners of The Downtown Farm Stand and the passion they have for local organic food shines through in the flavors and freshness. We will be back!!
Look at these TOSTADAS, and all locally sourced? Say less! I’m an alumni at this point, back visiting friends, and this is THE MOST LOW-KEY BRUNCH IN MUNCIE! The ambiance is amazing and relaxing, everyone is so pleasant and cheerful, and I will definitely be back! Also, bottomless mimosas are most definitely the move for the Sunday Scaries!
